Bryn Chainey is a British-Australian filmmaker creating genre-bending stories in the thorny edgelands of horror, fairy tale, and psychological drama. His work centres on intimate, warmly observed relationships within cinematic worlds steeped in mood, myth and suggestion.
Rabbit Trap, his debut feature starring Dev Patel and Rosy McEwen, was produced by Elijah Wood’s SpectreVision; it premiered at Sundance 2025 and was distributed internationally by Focus Features. The film’s fable-like logic confused the hell out of many critics but IndieWire still described Bryn as an ambitious and “extremely promising filmmaker.” He’ll take it.
Bryn is an alumnus of Griffith Film School, Berlinale Talents, Torino Film Lab, Locarno Academy, and Toronto Talent Lab. He’s also the co-founder of Pustnik, a non-profit screenwriting residency and education programme in rural Romania.
Outside of filmmaking, he is an enthusiastic loser at chess, knows the correct way to greet a goblin, and recently learned how to milk a goat.
